• Intelligent Automated Storage Management for EMC Devices

Eliminate vendor lock in to your archive data.

Why Partner with Dell EMC?

Dell EMC storage systems include the VNX/VNXe Family, Isilon, Atmos, Unity, Elastic Cloud Storage (ECS) and others. EMC Archiving, Backup, and Recovery solutions include Avamar, Data Domain, NetWorker, RecoverPoint, Centera, and SourceOne.

PoINT Software & Systems provides Certified Storage Management Applications and Integrations for EMC VNX, Atmos, ECS, Data Domain and Centera.

PoINT Storage Manager is a policy-based file tiering and archiving solution that is tightly integrated with the EMC File mover API, and addresses the problems associated with the growth of inactive and unstructured data stored on EMC storage systems.

Archiving Data from EMC VNX Systems

The Data Mover API integration of PoINT Storage Manager does not require changes to security controls or file system configuration.  It uses the file reparse policy to retain read access from Primary Storage to data which has been moved to Secondary/Archive Storage.  Clients and applications access data files transparently from the Archive Storage via a direct read mechanism, without restore to the Primary Storage.

Inactive and unstructured data can be archived from EMC VNX systems to less-expensive storage such as Public Cloud (Amazon S3, Microsoft Azure), Tape library and Optical library devices.  It has Certified integration with EMC ECS and EMC Data Domain.   Up to four Secondary/Archive targets can be defined for replicating copies of archived data onto multiple physical and Cloud storage devices.

Archiving Data to EMC Elastic Cloud Storage (ECS)

EMC Elastic Cloud Storage (ECS) is an Object Storage platform that combines storage, compute, and object storage software into a single solution to create a building block for highly-scalable Private Cloud and Hybrid Cloud storage.

PoINT Storage Manager can utilize ECS as an archive device, where inactive data can be automatically archived from Windows, EMC VNX, EMC Isilon, or any NAS system.

Configuring EMC ECS for archiving data is as simple as 1-2-3:

  1. Select Object Store from PoINT Storage Manager Setup
  2. Select EMC ECS from the “Advanced Connectors” drop-down
  3. Enter the Address, Bucket Name, Access Key, Secret Key, and Port Number and Click OK
  • STEP 1: Select Object Store from PoINT Storage Manager Setup

Archiving Data to EMC Data Domain

EMC Data Domain is a NAS Storage Device with very fast implementation of lossless data compression, optimized for streaming workloads. Its design goal was to be “the storage of last resort.”  EMC has integrated the platform with its Data Protection Suite software and by offering expanded software enhancements.

PoINT Storage Manager can utilize EMC Data Domain as a HD/NAS Archive Device, where inactive data can be automatically archived from Windows, EMC VNX, EMC Isilon, or any NAS system.

Configuring Data Domain for archiving data is as simple as 1-2-3:

  1. Select Hard Disk/NAS from PoINT Storage Manager Setup
  2. Select EMC Data Domain from the Configure HD/NAS Device
  3. Enter the Device Name, browse to the target directory, and Click OK
